In 2005, I spent 5 weeks in Kenya, East Africa, doing everything from working with the homeless, visiting A.I.D.S. patients, adult and
juvenile prison ministry, music ministry, teaching in schools, and
working on building projects in the shanty-town slums of Nairobi.
In 2006, I led a team to Zimbabwe, Southern Africa, to work
with Lasting Impressions, a wilderness camp that teaches
leadership skills to Zimbabwe youth. We also worked in
an environmental
education camp on the Zambezi River
as well as visited
a rural mission hospital.
In July 2007, I led a team to Manaus, Brazil. The team
spent
a week on a boat traveling down the Amazon River
delivering
medical supplies
and support as well as village upkeep
to poorer communities
on the river. We also coordinated donations of clothes, supplies and toys.
In August 2007, I co-led a team back to Kenya to
work
with Shepherd's Home Children's Sanctuaries,
which fosters
kids orphaned by A.I.D.S. The team worked with two orphanages, one outside Nairobi and the other in a rural area near Gilgil. We also did some construction and painting at Dayspring school in a slum in Nairobi.
In October 2009, I went to India with a Leadership Vision Forecasting Team along with the senior pastors and other leaders of my church. The purpose of the trip is to strengthen the relationship with our humanitarian mission partners in India, visit mission projects and learn more about mission in the context of India, determine possible points of future cooperation between Bel Air Presbyterian and our partner in India. In 2010, I led a team back to India to work with the Bihar Outreach Network (BORN), located in India's poorest state of Bihar, located in Northern India. BORN seeks to plant churches as well as develop rural villages and surrounding areas into functioning and healthy communities through adult and children’s ministries, education and leadership training.
In 2011, I lead a mission team to Haiti to help with the rebuilding effort after a devastating earthquake hit the country followed by several hurricanes. This trip was a combined effort by four churches who sent teams to work together in the rebuilding process.
